My Angel- Mixed Media Tag by Deb Stephens

I had so much fun creating this large mixed media layout using a 12 x 6” tag and lots of new iCraft products!

The wooden miniatures and the wooden embellishments take the iCraft Metallic and plain chalk paint so easily and the addition of gold wax gives this project the exact finish I was going for. Every wooden element was then covered in a gloss coat to give additional dimension.

The flimsy sheets were definitely a favorite to play with. The possibilities are endless as they even have clear sheets that you can color yourself with alcohol markers or ink.

This project was a pleasure to create as I had a little person that was so cute to frame. I hope it inspires you to try some of these fun new products as well!

"Country Garden" by Tina Ollett

Hello and a big welcome back. Tina with you to share my newest iCraft layout with you. I have created this time around using iCraft's Country Garden collection and omg..... the colours are spectacular. Not my normal go to of course but I couldn't resist to use this gorgeous photo to compliment the colours in the paper pack.

This is my project ...."Country Garden".

To start out I took my time over a number of nights to fussy cut a bowlful of elements from the paper pack Country Garden as well as from the Element Sheet of Country Garden. So many glorious elements to use. I cut as many as I could so I could layer and layer and layer some more.

I have used the 12 x 12 Country Garden paperpack to cut elements from as I said before. Also from the paper pack I used the black damask patterned paper as my background. This was primed in clear gesso. I coloured the area where my clusters were to sit with iCraft's Sleigh Bells chalk paint using a stiff brush and a dabbing motion. Over this I added in some random stamping using a script stamping block and Iced Spruced Distress Oxide ink. I left my background to dry on its own and worked on the frame for my photo. The piece I used to frame my photo is actually from the Wooden Elements set. I used the oval piece as a template to cut my photo. I sanded the edges of the photo and then secured it to the ornate framework in the Wooden Elements pack. This was coloured using a mix of colours. Firstly Chalk paint in Dark Secret was added firstly. This was dried then I added in some random inking with Distress Oxide in Walnut Stain. And over the top of this colouring of Intense Ocean chalk paint. The layers of colours help to break up the intensity of the last colour used. I dressed the window shutters and the brick works similarly. The ornate border wooden embellishment was coloured using a white ink.

I tore a small length of lace into sections so I could easily glue these pieces into place as I worked. The frame was adhered in firstly then I worked around it adding layers using old board to give the pieces a sturdy base to sit upon. I added in the leaves and also the lace as mentioned above. Once there were two layers of the fussy elements I then added in some of the wooden embellishments. Some of these were cut apart to go further around the page.

On the element sheet there were also butterflies, flies and bees. These were also added amoungst the layers. Once all the layers were in place I did made a mix of splatters using Intense Ocean, White Gesso, and Black Gesso. I also added in some iCraft Arty Beads for more textural interest.

And last but not the least I added more colour to the centres of some of the flowers. This was done by applying Crackle Varnish and when nearly dry I sprinkled over the Crystal Shimmer. Once completely dried this give it another depth of colour.

As with most things I photograph the photos really do not show the full gorgeousness of the papers colours. I think black as a background is rather difficult to photograph. "And so the adventure begins" Art Journal page by Deb Stephens

"And so the adventure begins" is a very fitting title to use on my very first project on this new design team adventure for iCraft Australia. This art journal page was a lot of fun to make as I had been given a whole bunch of new products to play with, who wouldn't like that?

This page was created with lots of iCraft chalk paint and a Layering stencil (iCraft supplies used are listed and linked at the bottom of this blog post) and a few background stamps, a collage butterfly element and a sentiment sticker from my stash to finish it off.

I started by taping my paper to my worksurface with a low tack tape and then put down a layer of chalk paint in random areas with a paintbrush until I couldn't see white on the page anymore. I then sponged some of the same paint colours with the Layering Stencil number 8562. I would start in an area with the purple paint for example, then extend it out with the stencil to cover areas that had contrasting chalk paint underneath like yellow. I then stamped a range of small background patterned stamps in Archival ink as I knew I was going to apply more paint and water later and I didn't want the ink to smear.

I then drew in some lines and circles with a light pencil. I used a wash of cream pie chalk paint with water and painted with rough up and down brush strokes around these elements so it pushed the vibrancy into the background more and made the circles and plank elements I had created pop more. I always dried between layers. I used a light wash of chalk paint colours to apply darker colour to the bottom of the circles to create some depth and shadow. I also used a variety of texture and script stamps with archival ink in many colours to stamp inside and in between the circles. I also used a Stabillo All pencil to scribble roughly around the circles and to define the vertical lines. I went over this with a fine tipped brush and water to activate the pencil as it's water soluble. I also shaded a little between the circles with the pencil to create more shadow and activated with water and brush again.

To finish off, I fussy cut a butterfly collage element and glued it on with a sentiment sticker. I also used a white gel pen to add highlights to the circles and outline the sentiment to make it stand out more.
